ROYAL DANCE ACADEMY SUMMER CAMPS 2012
ACTING CAMP- RDA AT THE OSCARS!!
The camp will consist of short scenes from nominated films acted out by the students, red carpet, interviews, entertainment & hosting. The final show will be the Oscars ceremony. It will be great fun and involve acting, comedy, hosting, modeling, styling, script writing and lots more! All student actors will be encouraged and taught in a fun environment to act naturally and honestly and engage with their characters to bring them to life. Through cold reading, scene study and improvisation they will learn to enjoy the entire experience. They will take their acting to another level, which will enhance their confidence at school and in other social activities. Working actors from film and television will work with the students passing on to them the benefit of their experiences. The classes will teach them to act for camera, which will help them be creative, help build self-confidence, strengthen reading and comprehension skills, and help them to develop the acting skills needed to perform in film and television. They will be filmed and be able to watch back and critique themselves.
Broadway Camp Ages 6+
Experience the best of Broadway Musicals! Students will enjoy various dance styles and musical theatre to their favorite Broadway Songs, classes will be split into appropriate age groups and levels. This will be a fun and exciting week filled with high energy and opportunities where students can learn and improve in their overall dance technique. Learn how to be a Broadway Star! Presentation for parents on the final day.
CLASSICAL CAMP- AGES 8+ YRS
This camp is for those students who just can’t get enough ballet and want to improve in their overall ballet technique. Throughout the week, students will perfect their barre and centre, work on specialized steps such as turns and leaps, stretch for flexibility, strengthening exercises, pre-Pointe, Pointe work and repertoire. Students will also do Pilates, modern, contemporary and floor barre. Classes will be split according to levels. This is highly recommended for those who love ballet and have the desire to be challenged and pushed to the next level. Prima Ballerinas in the making!
COMPETITION BOOT CAMP
This camp is mandatory for all members of the competition teams. This will be a high energy week of team building, conditioning, strengthening and technique. Dancers will also learn tricks and choreography for upcoming seasons. Students must attend one of the weeks.
CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary is one of the most captivating styles in the dance industry today. It has been around for decades and is growing in popularity with the audiences of Mia Michaels and Wade Robson. In our contemporary camp, our instructors will incorporate lyrical, strength training, stylistic qualities of the genre and improvisation to help dancers blossom creatively and technically. This camp is highly recommended to the dancer with an artistic mind.
HIP HOP CAMP- AGES 7+ YRS
Bring your swag to a week full of breaking, popping, locking, and choreography. Fine-tune your hip hop skills in fun, high energy classes. We will be sure to show our talent at the end of the week.
MUSIC VIDEO CAMP- AGES 10+ YRS
See how the pros choreograph, direct and produce together a music video. At Music Video Camp, the students will make their ideas come to life on the screen! Dancers will learn how to develop a video concept, musical ideas, costuming, choreography, lighting, set design and much more. Dancers will shoot a real music video and receive a DVD of the finished product after the camp is over. With so many creative ideas and so much to learn, this is sure to be an exciting and unique experience.
POP STARS- AGE 6+ YRS
Adele, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Rihanna and Katy Perry are just some of the artists we will be dancing to. All styles of dance, learning some original choreography from the music videos. Pop Star performance at the end of the week!
PRECIOUS PRINCESS CAMP- AGES 3+ YRS
Let your daughter be a princess for a whole week! They will dance, sing, act and dress up to their favorite princess themes throughout the week. There will also be lots of crafts and a pretty princess tea party. Don’t miss this opportunity for your daughter to be part of this “royal gathering.” Presentation for parents on the final day.
RAD CAMPS
This camp is for those students enrolled in the RAD program. It is mandatory for students to attend one of the weeks in order to learn the new syllabus.
SHAKE IT UP 6+ YEARS
Work it on the dance floor like Cece and Rocky at the shake it up camp. It will be a dance party everyday full of exciting dance routines with games and prizes. Learn from the pros at RDA and shake it up!
TRICK IT OUT (for intermediate and advanced dancers only)
If you are looking to put some extra power for your next performance, this is the camp for you. The trick it out camp is designed for the dancer that wants to learn the tricks, turns, jumps, flips and freezes that make the crowds go wild. Dancers will learn a wide variety of skills from ballet, jazz, break dancing and even acrobatics. You won't want to miss out!!
