Mommy & Me (Ages 18 months – 3 years)
A unique introductory class designed to introduce children to dance and musical movement. From the moment children are born they are stimulated by music and the movements associated with it. This class provides the opportunity for parents to accompany and interact with their child in a fun, yet structured environment. A variety of props and different types of music, including children’s songs, nursery rhymes, Disney classics and favorite ballet pieces will be used during the class. This class helps build social skills which includes following instruction, listening, dancing individually and dancing in pairs and groups. The class also helps to develop balance, coordination, poise and creative expression and fully prepares the child for the next level of class where they are independent of their parent.

Ballet & Tap
This is a combination class and is designed to give children an introduction to both ballet and tap in our studio. In these classes children are taught fundamental techniques that are the basis for any future development.

Ballet
Ballet is the cornerstone of all dance, and through ballet training the fundamental elements of all dance forms are taught. Our policy for all students to take a ballet class is one which we believe in and adhere to for the benefit of each individual student. Our ballet classes cater for beginners through to the advanced student. Our teaching staff are extremely experienced and well trained and will guide each student as to their level and therefore, appropriate class. The focus in ballet is on developing correct technique, musicality, proper placement, strength, grace, discipline and poise. Our ballet students are also encouraged to have FUN and enjoy the classes. The personalities of our staff facilitate this integral ingredient of any learning environment.

Pre-Pointe
Pre-Pointe classes are for those students who are serious about ballet and are preparing for Pointe work. The focus of the class is to strengthen the feet and legs, but correct posture and adequate turnout is crucial. Taking Pre-Pointe classes does not guarantee any student to start Pointe work. The preparation can take students between 1-2 years. Students must take at least two regular ballet classes per week in addition to the Pre-Pointe classes.

Pointe
Pointe classes will be offered to those students who meet all the requirements to start Pointe work and have completed a Pre-Pointe program. Students must take at least two (2) regular ballet classes and at least two (2) Pointe classes per week in order to progress and develop the strength of the muscles needed for Pointe. Careful attention is given to the emotional and physical needs of each student as each student develops at a different pace. Even though every child dreams of ‘going on Pointe’ we stress that it is a big commitment and extremely hard work. More importantly, Pointe work is not suitable or attainable for every student and will be subjected to the teacher’s discretion. Pointe classes should be fun and not just a challenge. Students develop excellent technique and artistic expression through these classes where repertoire, character, Spanish and various ballet styles are also taught. This program also develops those dancers who wish for a professional career in dance.

Hip-Hop
Our superb Hip-Hop program has now been running successfully since 2001 and is extremely popular with all ages. High energy, slick moves and lines and attitude are all part of these classes. The Hip Hop teachers at R.D.A come with extensive resumes having worked along side some of the biggest names in ‘pop’ and Hip Hop music, with T.V credits and live concert shows, to support their technical expertise.

Tap
Our tap classes are designed to help students develop rhythm and timing. Tap classes are lots of fun, as children love making sounds with their feet. Classes are available for the beginner to the advanced level covering all styles of tap including rhythm, tap and Broadway style.

Jazz
We pride ourselves in the quality of our jazz program at the Royal Dance Academy. Jazz at the R.D.A. is fuelled with energy and passion and our students are encouraged to dance with these two ingredients at all times. Our jazz teachers teach with high energy levels and enthusiasm and demand the same of their students. Jazz is an integral part of our recitals. Students enjoy learning different dance styles from the traditional American Jazz, Broadway musicals and music and styles from popular culture.
